A CSO, Arewa Northern Agenda for
Good Governance and other affiliated groups has described as bad omen and grave disservice to the revered traditional institution to be use to settled political scores in Bauchi State, saying the incident is heating up of the polity and can leads to exacerbation of civil strife.
The group condemned the recent decision took by the Bauchi Emirate council on the removal of Senator Shehu Umar Buba as 'Mujaddadin Bauchi" tittle that was allegedly influenced and motivated by political feud between the sitting Governor and the Senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District.
Zonal Coordinator of the group
Comrade Isma'il Musa who address a press conference yesterday in Bauchi said, "We finds this development as a grave disservice to the revered traditional institution, because custodians of the nation's sacred values and cultural authorities ought and must remain objective; politically neutral and live above board since all political
actors from diverse political platforms are also your subject."
Musa said, "We urged Governor Bala Mohammed to exercise the powers he has with due sensitivity and humanity.
This bad precedence that the Governor wants to leave behind for victimizing
political opponents using our reputable traditional institution can not only
continue to rubbish the public image of the institution in the eyes of members of the civilized public, but will also be responsible for the heightening of social discord and the constant heating up of the polity which will leads to exacerbation of civil strife.
Musa listed some victims of the political victimization including former Speaker of the House Representative Hon. Yakubu Dogara removed as Jakkadan Bauchi, Hon. Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi stripped as Wakilin Birnin Bauchi as well as "our father Alhaji Muhammad Bello Kirfi sacked as Wazirin Bauchi."
Musa noted that he emirate ought to be promoter of peace and harmony among it subjects in the society rather than allowing themselves and their offices to be used as a unit in politics. Traditional rulers should remain neutral and serve as a role model for all.
Musa added,, "We strongly believe that Bauchi emirate council ought not to allow it hard earned glory to be lost in the eyes of the public."
