Bauchi LGA poll: electoral materials delayed as voters deserted polling units

Electorates at the Saturday’s Bauchi State local government election have lamented delay in distribution of electoral materials to the polling units on good time, while larger percent of the residents within the voting age shun the exercise and business activities and movement unhindered.

Our Correspondent who monitored the exercise reported that at 9:30am, voting materials were being delivered to Baba Sidi Collation Centre while few voters were loitering around while others were returning home, citing late arrival of electoral materials. 

Many of the voters were seen waiting for electoral officials in Alkaleri local government and part Bauchi metropolis at about 9:am and 10:am respectively. 

In Polling units 008, Yelwa Duguri, election was concluded at about 11:10am, sorting and counting was done before 12pm. 

When our reporter got to the venue, there was not security officials but electoral officers were seen with materials and some party agents. 

The Presiding Officer, Garba Haliru Abubakar, said that Chairmanship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party polled 453 while the All Progressives Congress (APC) got 10 votes. 

“We have received the election materials since about 4am, we started voting about 8am we have done the voting peacefully, fair and credible.”

In several polling units in rural communities, there was massive voter aparty as the voters claimed low campaign and mobilisation by political parties.
