The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old father for illegally chaining own son in Giade local council of the State.
Police Spokesman of the Command, Ahmed Wakil in a statement on Monday, said that the Command on Sunday 7th of July received a report of child abuse that on Saturday 6th at about 5:20pm, one Mamuda Abubakar, a 30-year-old resident of Abbo, Chinkani Ward, Giade LGA, Bauchi State, tied his 6 years old son with a chain inside a room at their residence.
Police said that a detective team was dispatched to the scene of the incident, while the child was rescued and the suspect, one Mamuda Abubakar, was arrested and currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), state headquarters, Bauchi.
Ahmed Wakil said in his statement that the suspect confined the minor in order to prevent him from going to his maternal grandfather's house. “The suspect and the minor's mother separated five years ago, and the mother has since remarried and no longer lives with her father.
“He explained that his son should not visit the grandfather's house due to the lack of morality among the children there. When the son insisted on going, the suspect became furious and ultimately chained the minor,” Police said.
ALSO, another suspect, Adamu Alhassan, a 30-year-old was arrested in Toro Council of the State for breaking into a 60 years old woman and attacked him with several injuries on her head, according to Police.
“A report was received from the Officer-in-Charge (O/C) of Nabardo Police outstation regarding a grievous incident that occurred on Sunday 7th at about 1:pm that one Aliyu Yunusa, a 40-year-old resident of Yelwa Village, reported that unknown individuals broke into his mother’s residence and attacked her with a dangerous weapon.
“The victim, Safiya Yunusa, a 60-year-old woman, sustained severe injuries to her head.”
The victim was conveyed to Toro General Hospital for medical attention where she was confirmed dead by a doctor.
Wakil said that with local vigilante groups and Fulani leaders in the area, one suspect Adamu Alhassan, a 30-year-old, was arrested in connection with the attack.
“The suspect's footprints were identified and traced from the scene. Meanwhile, the weapon used in committing the crime was also recovered as exhibits.”
He added that the suspect would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a discreet investigation and prosecution upon completion of the investigation, as ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed.
