The members of Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, will elect new leaders on Wednesday, tomorrow, who will lead the Chapel for the next three years.
The 2026 election has produced competitive races for the offices of Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer, while other positions have single cleared candidates.
For chairman seat, Samuel Luka of Daily Times will face Rauf Oyewole of The Guardian in the race. The Secretary’s position will also be contested by two journalists, Mohammed Nasir Shuaibu of New Telegraph and Armstrong Bakam of Arise.
The Treasurer’s race features Adamu Shehu Imam of Trust Television and Ayinde Abdulsaheed Olaide of NAN.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Kawu of New Nigeria Newspaper is the sole cleared candidate for Vice Chairman, while David Adenuga of The Nation is the only cleared aspirant for Auditor.
The Credentials/Electoral Committee cleared eight aspirants after reviewing their qualifications, practising fees, curriculum vitae and sponsorship requirements.
Two aspirants, however, failed to make the final list.
A total of 37 members have been listed as eligible voters for the election.
The voters are drawn from several media organisations operating in Bauchi, including national newspapers, television stations, news agencies, international media organisations and online publications.
According to the Credentials/Electoral Committee, voting is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. and close at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
The election and swearing-in of the successful candidates will be supervised by officials of the NUJ Bauchi State Council.
The Election Committee has called on all eligible members to turn out and exercise their franchise.
