A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and philanthropist, Dr. Bala Maijama'a Wunti, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Bauchi State, citing overwhelming calls from citizens, stakeholders, and supporters across the state.
Wunti made his declaration during a courtesy visit and formal presentation to the APC leadership in Bauchi Local Government Area, his first official engagement with the party at both local and state levels.
Addressing party officials at the secretariat, he emphasised that his decision was not driven by personal ambition, but by sustained appeals from the people of Bauchi State urging him to offer leadership at a critical time.
"Allah knows, I only accepted to contest because of the pressure mounted on me to help rescue the future of our unemployed youth and safeguard the next generation," he said.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and pledged to run an inclusive administration if elected, promising equal opportunities for all citizens and a strong focus on sustainable development.
Dr. Wunti also congratulated the newly inaugurated APC leadership in Bauchi local government area, expressing confidence in their ability to strengthen the party and deliver on its mandate.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the Bala Wunti Movement, Rt. Hon. Yahaya Mohammed Miya, who introduced the aspirant to party leaders, said the visit was aimed at familiarizing Dr. Wunti with key stakeholders within the party structure.
In his remarks, the APC Chairman of Bauchi Local Government, Alhaji Sunusi Biyali, described Dr. Wunti as a distinguished indigene whose contributions to human capital development and mentorship have made significant impact.
"Dr. Bala Wunti' record speaks for itself. His mentorship has produced individuals capable of holding top public offices, including that of governor," he said.
He assured all aspirants of a level playing field, noting that Dr. Wunti’s track record would remain a valuable asset as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.
According to a statement issued on Friday by Abubakar Al-Sadique, Chief Communication Officer of the Bala Wunti Support Organisation, the declaration is expected to energise the political landscape in Bauchi State as preparations gather momentum ahead of the next electoral cycle.
