Inferno: NEDC donates Fire Service Station to ATBU

The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has handed the newly constructed fire station to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi, to address any fire outbreak related incidents in the Gubi campus.

Speaking shortly before the commissioning and handing over of the facility to the school management, Uba Ahmadu, the Honourable Minister of State for Regional Development, implored the university to own the facility and other projects undertaken and delivered by NEDC.

The Minister, who commended the North-East Development Commission for executing the ‘life saving project’, said President Tinubu’s magnanimity has continued to support NEDC and other development agencies which has made many of such a project into reality.

“I urge the university community to take this facility as their own because in doing that, the government gets the reassurance that monies are not wasted and they truly appreciates the effort of the government and the valuable efforts of NEDC,”

“On behalf of the ministry, the commission, the house of representatives committee under NEDC and to the service and benefit of humanity commission this edifice,” he said.
Earlier, Mohammed Alkali, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NEDC, said that the Fire Service Station consists of offices, tower, truck bay, one fire truck, and water reservoir among others.

He added that the project was provided to save lives and property in case of any fire outbreak within the campus and also called on the university to maintain the facility effectively.

Receiving the facility, Prof. Ibrahim Garba, the Vice Chancellor of the institution lauded the NEDC for bringing the project to the university.

Represented by Dr. Dauda Bakum, the university’s Librarian, Garba said that the occasion marked not just the unveiling of a building but the forging of a vital shield for the university, the neighboring communities, and the Bauchi State as a whole.

According to him, the gesture was a testament of the NEDC and the Federal Government’s commitment to safety, resilience, and the sustainable development of the Northeast sub-region.

Another project visited by the Minister and NEDC team was the ongoing construction of Government Senior Secondary School, Bauchi.

While inspecting the project, the Managing Director of NEDC said it consists of an Administrative Block, 12 classrooms, two 100 bed capacity hostels, two number of three bedroom staff quarters, eight two-bedroom staff quarters.

Others, he said, included; 50 students capacity ICT centre, 130 students capacity library, laboratory, perimeter fence and gate, water supply among others.
