Bauchi digitases land administration to enhance revenue

By Hassan Ibrahim

Bauchi State Bureau for Information, Communication Technology and Digital Economy has commenced digitisation and automation of the State Ministry of Land and Survey to enhance generation and collection of revenue in the State.

Speaking during the presentation of the operating system in Bauchi, Director General of Bureau for Information, Communication Technology and Digital Economy, Hayatudeen Babamaji, said that the initiative encompasses the digitisation and automation of the whole ministry of Land and Survey, other critical MDAs including Development of Control, Bauchi State Geographic System (BAGIS) and Bauchi State Environmental Sanitation and Projection Agencies (BASEPA) into one operating digital system.

Babamaji explained that the presentation was designed to get the ministry's inputs and see how "we can implement and make things easy for centralised system because we are in a digital era which requires a transparent digital revenue system for the benefits of the citizens and the government."

He added that part of the mandate of the bureau is to provide digital infrastructures across all the ministries, departments and agencies to uphold professionalism and transparency in governance.

In his remarks, State Commissioner of Lands and Survey Abdullahi Mohammed, said that the main idea behind the digitisation and automation of the ministry of land is to enhance generation and collection of revenue systems for the overall interest and welfare of the people of Bauchi State.

Mohammed explained that the digitisation was intended to build an Institution with standard procedures that would stand the test of time, especially on having an operating system for generation and collection of revenue which was conceived under the programs of "My Bauchi Project 1 and 2 of His Excellency" Governor Bala Mohammed.

The Commissioner added that the ministry has been collecting revenue but there's need to have a digitised and transparent institution to educate citizens to know why they should pay all their taxes, adding, "These platforms would make it easy for residents to pay their taxes and access relevant data on their properties and what to do with them. On our part, the platform would enhance generation and collection of revenue in the ministry."
