Lawyers Alert has commenced a Training of Trainers (ToT) session in Bauchi State under its Men Feminist Network initiative, aimed at building the capacity of men to champion the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and promote gender equality.
Dr Bamidele Jacobs, Director of Legal Services at Lawyers Alert, stated this during the one-day session designed to strengthen the capacity of 35 male participants.
He explained that the participants were selected based on their passion and commitment to supporting the cause of women in addressing GBV and promoting gender equality
“We are training the trainers today,” he said.
“The expectation is that they will return to their communities and engage other men on this cause.”
Jacobs noted that the first quarter of the two-year project targets reaching about 2,000 men across three Local Government Areas—Bauchi, Toro, and Ningi.
He emphasized that to effectively reduce GBV cases against women, male engagement must be prioritized, especially among community stakeholders and family heads.
According to him, the project seeks to achieve measurable success through a decline in the number of GBV cases reported from communities.
