The African Health Budget Network (AHBN) and the Zero Dose Learning Hub (ZDLH) Community of Practice have commended the Bauchi State Government and the State House of Assembly for their unwavering commitment to immunization financing and health sector development.
Dr. Aminu Garba Magashi, Coordinator of AHBN, led a high-level advocacy visit to the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Sulaiman, on Friday in Bauchi.
He expressed deep appreciation to the government for the passage and 100 percent release of the N872 million projected immunization budget for 2025.
Dr. Magashi, however, called on the Assembly to strengthen its oversight role to ensure the judicious use of the allocated funds.
He emphasised the need to track the implementation of life-saving immunization interventions, particularly in local government areas with a high number of zero-dose children.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Hassan Shuaibu Musa, the Bauchi State Team Lead for AHBN, urged lawmakers to prioritize gender-sensitive policies and ensure integration with the state’s social protection programs to promote gender mainstreaming and inclusivity in health interventions.
In his response, Speaker Abubakar Sulaiman expressed gratitude to AHBN and the ZDLH Community of Practice for their support and the presentation of the 2024 Immunization Financing Scorecard to the Assembly and other key stakeholders.
He pledged continued legislative support for immunization and other health initiatives, particularly in ensuring the timely release and transparent tracking of funds down to facility levels.
He also lauded the Chairmen of the House Committees on Health and Appropriation, Malam Lawan Dauda and Malam Mohammed Wanzam, for their vital roles in facilitating a seamless budget process and passage.
