ATBUTH seeks collaboration to strengthen healthcare delivery

By Rauf Oyewole

Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) has called for strategic collaborations to strengthen healthcare delivery amidst challenges confronting the health sector in the country.

The Chief Medical Director, Prof Yusuf Bara Jibrin, on Thursday during a stakeholders town hall meeting, said that for the health institution to achieve sustainable excellence, critical stakeholders partnership is a must.

Bara while presenting a paper on: “Sustaining Healthcare Excellence Through Strategic Collaboration” said that no entity, institution, or government can achieve lasting progress in healthcare alone. According to him, it requires a collective effort that bridges gaps, leverages expertise, and fosters innovation.

“If we truly seek excellence, we must move beyond traditional silos and engage in dynamic partnerships that prioritise efficiency, accessibility, and sustainability.

“Collaboration is the lifeblood of healthcare progress and no institution thrives in isolation. Sustainable healthcare demands a multi-sectoral approach, where government, private entities, NGOs, and the public work hand in hand to bridge gaps and enhance service delivery.”

Bara said that innovation is non-negotiable when the healthcare landscape is evolving, and stagnation is not an option. “From digital health records to minimally invasive surgeries, ATBUTH is embracing modern solutions to improve patient outcomes and operational efficiency.

He said that a robust healthcare system does not discriminate based on financial status. ATBUTH, according to him, renders free emergency care, subsidised dialysis, and maternal healthcare programmes demonstrate that access to quality care should be a right, not a privilege.

He said that the facility has over 850 beds capacity and has just purchased some medical equipment, including CT scan.

The Hospital, according to him, trains over 300 healthcare professionals annually, in collaboration with ATBU College of Medical Sciences, ATBUTH College of Nursing Sciences, School of Health Information Management.
