Mob killed two robbery suspects, as motorcycle rider lynched in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has said that two suspected motorcycle snatchers were arrested by an angry mob who killed them and set one lifeless body ablaze in Misau local government area of Bauchi.

Police Spokesman, Ahmed Wakil said that a 25-year-old commercial motorcycle operator, Muhammad Mamuda Baba Jibir was intercepted, killed while his killers stole the motorbike. 

Wakili said that Police in Misau received the incident of conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide on 18th of August 2024 at about 10pm, that a body was spotted lying down in a pool of blood in Anguwan Agwaluma, outskirts of Misau town.

He said that the DPO of Misau Police Division led a team of detectives to the scene and discovered that the victim's throat was cut with a knife. “The detectives moved the victim's body to the General Hospital, Misau where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor,” he explained.

Police said the victim was identified as Muhammad Mamuda Baba Jibir of Sabon Layi in Misau town, 25 years old and a commercial motorcycle operator.

"His motorcycle, Boxer, was snatched and carted away by the suspected armed robbers. His body was released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic injunction," he added. 

24 hours after the incident, two suspects were arrested by the Police with the said motorcycle along the Misau - Kari road where they were lynched by irate mob which burnt one of the bodies to ashes but the motorcycle was recovered.

The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Mohammed while reacting to the ugly incident, frowned at the actions of the irate youths who instead of taking the suspects to Police custody for proper investigations, instead mobbed the suspects that were arrested by the Police. 

According to him, "They (mob) overpowered the Police, took them out of the possession of the Police and killed the suspects. This was barbaric and inimical to the laws governing our dear country."

The Commissioner of Police therefore warned the residents of the state that the Command under his stewardship will not tolerate or allow some recalcitrants in the society to continue to take the laws into their hands by killing suspects who were duly and promptly arrested by the Police for an alleged crime in a dehumanized and unlawful manner.
