A group, known as the Initiative for Good Leadership and Development in Gombe state has appealed to the Federal Government to urgently address the current economic hardship bedeviling the country.
This is contained in a statement signed by Tasi’u Muhammad Pantami, the Public Relation Officer of the group and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Bauchi.
He said the group is concerned with the fact that the country is going through trying moments with people facing the hardest economic, social and security challenges ever.
“The call for National Protest to demand for immediate intervention by the Government to alleviate the suffering of the people is highly important at this crucial time.
“We wish to implore the Government to, without any delay, consider bringing down the price of fuel to the level before the removal of subsidy.
“Electricity tariff to return to the free banding era and strengthen the purchasing power of the Naira,” he said.
Pantami further urged the federal government to reduce the cost of governance by slashing salaries and allowances of the elected and appointed politicians, while adjusting the salaries and allowances of workers to enhance productivity.
“Government should also equip and motivate our security forces to effectively tackle the security crises in the country.
“It should as a matter of urgency initiate dialogue with those canvassing for the protest,” he said.
The group further called on the Muslim and Christian clerics, Traditional leaders as well as people of conscience to add their voice to the call for the Government to do the needful.
